Addressing a Unique Need
The Compass Cares Apartment Program was born out of a pressing need to assist patients and families who often find themselves on long waitlists for housing accommodations near hospitals. Research shows that patients, especially children, heal faster and cope better when their loved ones are nearby. Recognizing this, we established the Compass Cares program to offer patients and families a quiet place to rest and heal during some of the most challenging times of their lives.

Our relationships with renowned hospitals like Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, and Tufts Medical Center have allowed us to directly connect with patients and families in need of accommodations. Additionally, we have joined forces with Hospitality Homes, a nonprofit organization that provides short-term housing in volunteer host homes. By working together, we ensure that no patient or family is turned away due to personal medical conditions or the challenges posed by the pandemic.

These move-in kits feature items donated through our Participating Partner Program, such as beautifully hand-crafted toys from local artisans and Love Your Melon beanies. We also furnish two donated apartments, creating a turn-key experience for our guests.
Measurable Impact
The effectiveness and quality of the Compass Cares program can be seen through the tangible outcomes it has achieved. To date, we have housed 778 families, providing over 27,110 room nights of accommodation. In addition, we have donated over $100,000 in support of the Hale Family Center for Patients and Families at Boston Children’s Hospital. This contribution directly benefits Patient and Family Services, which supports families throughout their experience at the hospital.
